I have been using EDF for a while now and their App is very useful, their rates very competitive and ease of changing Tariff is very easy. If you sign up with EDF using the provided link we we both receive a £50 credit on our accounts.
E-on Next rates are generally very similar to EDF, and appear more suited to those with EVs.
British Gas, So Energy & OVO Energy have reasonable rates.
Outfox The Market may be cheaper but you will have to provide your own meter readings to get accurate bills.
Octopus have great reviews but aren't the cheapest. May be useful for EV deals.
Utility Warehouse are generally very expensive, unless you take out other services with them, but even then they may not offer the best value.
Fuse Energy bill by Variable Direct Debit after the end of each month.
Standard options are:
£ nil - for Variable Tariffs and a few fixed rate deals, usually for existing customers.
£25 to £100 per fuel = for fixed term contracts, usually higher for 2 year contracts.
Be careful locking into a high exit fee contract if rates are expected to drop within the contract period.
Two year contracts increase the risk of overpaying during your contract, so carefully consider the overall savings.
If not paying by Direct Debit then you will pay a small monthly surcharge and have less alternatives to choose from.
Prices caps are not specifically fixed but set for a maximum cost for 'Typical' use. Unit & Standing Charges may be higher than the listed cap rates. The 'Best for You' company may vary for everyone based on your specific use.
Find out more how Ofgem works out the typical use for the energy price cap.
If you have the time and patience to do the research yourself, here are the links that I use, in order of how competitive their pricing usually is.
Always read small print carefully, as some companies like OutFox require you to provide readings as they don't use smart meters. Some require variable direct debits instead of fixed monthly amounts.
